Pick a scenario
Choose something from All scenarios, or press a card below. Each drill gives you a situation; you make the call, the app marks it element by element, then plays what ATC would say back so you can practise the readback.
Your transmission
Tap the mic and say your call out loud — the audio goes to OpenRouter for transcription, and the ATC reply comes back as OpenRouter speech. Typing always works.
Scenarios
Archerfield (YBAF) — schematic
Schematic only — not to scale, no navigational use. Layout traced from the YBAF aerodrome chart (AIRAC 03 SEP 2026). Runways are shown at their real relative bearings: 10L/28R 1577 m, 10R/28L 1100 m, 04L/22R 1245 m, 04R/22L 1100 m.
Voice engine
Speech in and out runs through OpenRouter — transcription goes to your chosen ASR model, and the ATC replies are synthesised by an OpenRouter TTS model. The API key is held by the server, never in this page. Switch to the browser engine if you are offline.
What this is
A radio-call drill for Archerfield (YBAF) — the aerodrome you refuel at — built so you can practise both sides of the conversation: the airside driver calls you make for work, and the pilot calls you will make when you start training.
Everything it grades against comes from two documents:
- Archerfield Airport Corporation — Airside Vehicle Control Handbook v2.1 (24 June 2025): radio procedures, readability scale, light signals, speed limits, demerit points, AROC/ADA requirements.
- ERSA Brisbane/Archerfield (YBAF), AIRAC 03 SEP 2026: frequencies, tower hours, runways, taxiways and aprons, departure and arrival procedures, CTAF rules.
It is a practice tool, not an operational document. Phraseology, frequencies and local procedures change — check the current AVCH, ERSA and AIP before you use anything airside.
How to drill properly
- Say the call out loud with the mic, not just typed. Your mouth needs the reps, not your typing fingers.
- Chase 100%, not 80%. A call missing the runway number or your position is not a good call.
- Always do the readback drill. ATC's instruction is not over until you have read it back.
- Re-run the CTAF scenarios — outside tower hours there is no clearance to rely on, only your own broadcast and lookout.
- Do five minutes a day. This is a language, and it leaves quickly.
Known simplifications
- Exact phraseology varies between controllers and schools. Grading is on the required elements, not on a perfect script — if you use different but valid words, you will still pass.
- Only Archerfield is loaded. The data layer is written so another aerodrome can be added later.
- Speech input needs a browser with the Web Speech API (Chrome on Android works well; iOS Safari is patchy). Typing always works.
